Blessed to Be a Blessing: Letting Go and Holding Loosely

Life Action Points for “Letting Go and Holding Loosely”.

In last weekend’s message entitled “Letting Go and Holding Loosely” Pastor Dave looked at Genesis 22 when God tested Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his promised son, Isaac.  Abraham passed three tests that unleashed the blessings of God in his life.  Use this week’s LAP’s to apply this message to your life.

LAP 1: Read Genesis 22:1-2.  When God tests you it is to prepare you for what is to come.  Can you think of a resent time God tested you?  What was your response to God, did you cooperate with Him or resist?  When God tests you, your natural response needs to be to cooperate or else you may miss the blessing of being involved in God’s work.  What was your most recent testing about?  What was the result?

LAP 2: Read Genesis 22: 9-10.  This was a test of Obedience for Abraham.  God will not ask you to do anything you are not capable of doing.  But our ability to follow God is hindered by the things we refuse to let go.  What is the thing you’re holding on to?  And how are those things keeping you from following God into new territory?

LAP 3: Read Genesis 22:5-8.  This was a test of Faith for Abraham.  God had promised a son who would be the heir and through him countless generations of Abraham’s family would flourish.  Isaac was promised son.  But now God asked Abraham to sacrifice him.  This test demanded that Abraham believe God to raise Isaac from the dead.  (See Hebrew 11:17-19).  When was the last time you believe BIG about something God said He would do?  What is God calling you to do…?  …Do you believe?

LAP 4: Read Gen. 22:11-12.  This was a test of Love for Abraham. The question for Abraham was which did he love more… the son God provided OR God who provided the son? No test could have been greater.  How do you think the Lord would speak into you about your love?

LAP 5: Read Gen. 22:7-8, 13-14.  This testing was not about Isaac.  God really wanted Abraham to be ALL IN.  After Abraham passed the tests, God provided a sacrifice and then Abraham named that place, “The Lord will provide.”  Can you see evidence in your life of the Lord’s providing a sacrifice when you needed it?  Be honest between you and God, are you ready to follow God, no matter the cost?  If not, it’s time for your obedience to God, faith in the Lord, and love for Jesus to grow.  Seek and you will find!
