In last weekend’s message, “Laying Up Treasures”, Pastor Dave spoke about four principles of Biblical Stewardship. Use this week’s Life Action Points to re-align your thinking about time, money, and resources.
Day 1
Matt. 6:19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal”
Principle of Ownership: Where are you laying up treasures? Consider this: God is the owner of your life. You were meant to live in alignment with His purposes. Your stuff belongs to Him and your role is to use it in a way that gets done what God wants done. Decide and follow through on one way you can align your time and money with God’s purposes this week.
Day 2
Matt. 6:20 “but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Principle of Reward 1: When you stand before God in eternity what reward will you receive? Everything you do, when done with God in mind can be an act of worship. To live your life with an eternal perspective is to bring heavenly actions into earthly living. And when you do that, you will honor God and make things better today.
Day 3
Matt. 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Principle of Reward 2: When you stand before God in eternity what reward will you receive? Do you see the value of heavenly treasures? If that, that is an indicator that you have not fully understood life with God. For the follower of Jesus who sees the value of God’s Kingdom, nothing else will suffice. Read Matt. 6:31-33; Matt 13:44-45; Matt. 19:13-14; John 3:3-7.
Day 4
Matt. 6:22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light”
Principle of Responsibility. Because nothing really belongs to us and it all belongs to God, we are responsible to God for how we treat it and what we do with it. The sign of healthy responsibility is that you willingly see yourself as a caretaker of what God has put in your hands. Invite God to help you live our healthy responsibility to Him.
Day 5
Matt. 6:24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
Principle of Accountability. We are stewards of all the resources and opportunities God has put in our hands. And one day we will answer to Him for it. When you see it this way, you will begin to make choices that reflect accountability. To embrace accountability to is no longer live your life apart from God, but to live life with God.
