Wealth: Eternal Riches in Christ

In last weekend’s message entitled “Wealth: Eternal Riches in Christ”, Pastor Dave looked at the rich young ruler who came to Jesus with the question, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”  He got more than he bargained for when Jesus invited him to a meaningful life of sacrificial generosity.  Use this week’s Life Action Points to help you apply the message to your life.

Monday

“And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good?  No one is good except God alone.” Mark 10:17 (ESV).

True inner goodness is not possible apart from God.  If you have faith in Jesus as your Savior, His goodness has been transferred to you.  If not, what is holding you back from giving your life to God?

Tuesday

“And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one things go, sell all that you have an give it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Mark 10: 17, 21 (ESV).

Jesus called on this man to stop trusting in wealth and begin a life of following after Jesus.  Commit yourself to follow Jesus by making God the highest priority of your life.

Wednesday

“Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!”  Mark 10:22-23 (ESV)

Jesus said it impossible for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of heaven.  This man walked away from Jesus because the cost of following Jesus was greater than what he was willing to live. God may be calling you to trust Him by taking a step of obedience.  Listen to God and follow Him where He leads you.

Thursday

“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?” Mark 10:25-26 (ESV)

It was a common belief in Jesus’ time that wealth was a sign of God’s blessing on a person.  And the rich were seen as the foremost candidates for heaven.  Jesus shattered this myth and surprised those listening by proclaiming that neither wealth nor good works earned favor before God. He explained that only true inner goodness transferred to those who believe in Christ will save.  Do you have any false beliefs that keep you from the life God wants for you?

Friday

“Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel,  who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.” Mark 10:29-30 (ESV)

No matter what you give up to follow Christ, it will be more than multiplied back to you.  Recount the blessings of God in your life and thank God for them.
